Yersinia enterocolitica infection

Gram negative, facultatively anaerobic bacteria causing acute gastroenteritis and mesenteric lymphadenitis in children, and arthritis, septicemia, and erythema nodosum in adults. Transmitted through food, water, and person-to-person contact. Usual course - acute.







CAUSES:
•contaminated food ingestion

TREATMENT

• streptomycin
• gentamicin
• tetracycline
• chloramphenicol
• trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole
• fluid replacement
