An acute infectious disease primarily of the tropics, caused by a virus and transmitted to man by mosquitoes of the genus Aedes and Haemagogus. A live virus vaccine (with few side effects) is effective and should be administered every 10 years. Usual course - acute. Endemic areas - Africa; South America.
